CONSTELLATION LEVEL II SUPPORT OFFICE
The Constellation Support Office provides coordinated and technical support and products to the Constellation Level II Program Office at Johnson Space Center to assist the Agency in meeting Exploration goals.

  • Provides valuable resources and expertise to the Constellation Level II Program Office
  • Provides strategic partnerships and capability for long term MSFC involvement in Exploration
  • Provides insight into requirements and process development that will drive Marshall Space Flight Center managed projects (both requirements and implementation)

What is the CONSTELLATION LEVEL II SUPPORT OFFICE?

The Constellation Support Office provides coordinated and technical support and products to the Constellation Level II Program Office at Johnson Space Center to assist the Agency in meeting Exploration goals.

  • Provides insight into requirements and process development that will drive Marshall Space Flight Center managed projects (both requirements and implementation)

This support is provided by all Engineering Directorate departments and laboratories, and other organizations, such as the Science and Mission Systems Office, Safety and Mission Assurance, and the Office of Strategic Analysis and Communications, at Marshall.  

The Level II organizations supported include:  

  • Advanced Projects Office
  • Program Integration and Management Oversight 
  • Program Planning and Control 
  • Safety, Reliability and Quality Assurance 
  • Systems Engineering and Integration 
  • Test and Verification  
The Constellation Support Office (CSO) also provides programmatic management/support via MSFC matrixed managers to the Constellation Level II Program Office.

What is the EXPLORATION FLIGHT PROJECTS OFFICE?
The Exploration Flight Projects Office provides coordinated technical and programmatic support, resources and expertise to key development activities tied to the Constellation Program. These include:

  • Marshall Space Flight Center is partnered with Langley Research Center (lead Center) on the development of the Launch Abort System (LAS). The Launch Abort System Office has management and independent verification responsibilities for the development of the LAS Module together with the overall management of the LAS to ensure delivery of the LAS within the cost, schedule and technical performance requirements.  Additional responsibilities include Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) and the internal integration of the LAS as well as support of the LAS SE&I into the CEV vehicle.

What is the EXPLORATION ADVANCED CAPABILITIES OFFICE?
The Exploration Advanced Capabilities Office is a project management organization comprised of experienced professionals engaged in defining, developing, and maturing space system concepts, related technologies, and advanced capabilities as key elements of the overall infrastructure for the continued development and exploration of space.

Goal/Mission Statement
The Exploration Advanced Capabilities Office conceives and implements new initiatives and enabling technologies to assist the Agency in meeting space exploration goals. Current initiatives include:

  • Advanced chemical propulsion systems  definition, development and demonstration
  • Advanced Fission Power Systems
  • Cryogenic Fluid Management
  • Technology development involving structures, materials and mechanics
  •  Analysis and development of Radiation  Hardened  Electronics for Space Environments 
  • Advanced  Exploration life support  system demonstration 
  • ISRU (in-situ resource utilization) and ISFR (in-situ fabrication and repair)
  • Robotics and  Surface  Mobility  Infrastructure 
  • AR&D (Automated Rendezvous and Docking)

What is the ISS VEHICLE OFFICE?
In support of the Vehicle Office of the International Space Station Program Office at the Johnson Space Center, the ISS Vehicle Office provides support to the following:

  • Regenerative Environmental Control and Life Support System by developing, delivering, and sustaining the Oxygen Generation System and the Water Recovery System;
  • Sustaining engineering for the Multi Purpose Logistics Module
  • Integration engineering for the Node 2 and Node 3 elements. Support for each of these major elements and systems for the ISS not only includes development and acceptance of the flight hardware, it also requires on-orbit/real time operations support at the Huntsville Operations Support Center (HOSC) at Marshall Space Flight Center and the Mission Control Center at Johnson Space Center.

What is the ISS PAYLOADS OFFICE?
The office heritage is the development and delivery of numerous payload rack facilities and associated hardware and software to accommodate research on the ISS. Current primary tasks include mangement of the following:
